Tradition Meets Experimentation

Get ready for an extraordinary evening of music as Dálava brings their mesmerizing soundto the Fox Cabaret.

Led by two dynamic musicians – vocalist Julia Ulehla and guitarist Aram Bajakian – Dálava reimagines traditional songs from Slovácko (Czechia), breathing new life into century-old melodies collected by Ulehla’s great-grandfather, a biologist and legendary ethnomusicologist. Dálava’s unique blend of folk, improvisation, jazz, and new classical transforms ancestral music into a “stunning fusion of Middle European melody, rock energy, and scratchy avant-jazz textures” (Georgia Straight)

Dálava’s performances are more than just concerts—they are musical rituals that conjure up deep connections to the past, while embracing bold, experimental sounds. Whether you’re a fan of folk, avant-garde jazz, or genre-defying music, this concert will take you on a voyage where music, history, and emotion merge.

Don’t miss this chance to experience songs that transcend time and space, brought to life through haunting vocals, rich instrumental textures, and an energy that’s both raw and refined.

This performance marks a special moment: Dálava’s third album understories will be released April 18 on the Pi Recording label.
